Our New Bern House

We signed the paperwork for construction in August, 2004 and broke ground on our latest residence in October of that year.  It was a long, arduous process, and we did not move in until August, 2005.  As of Jan. 2006, we still have a lengthy punch list of things that need to be corrected.  We've got a great location and view though, as we are located on a golf course lot situated at the 18th tee box of the Taberna Country Club.  Taberna is a development of over 700 home sites at the eastern edge of New Bern, NC and is considered one of New Bern's finest communities.

Most of the following photos were taken on a rare gray day in Jan. 2006.   The grass looks brown because it is brown.  Centipede grass, the favored grass down here because of its drought and heat tolerance, goes dormant in the winter.  It'll green back up in the spring.

Here's a quick tour of the exterior.

And on to the inside...

The picture on the left is clearly the foyer.  Go through the glass doors on the left of the picture and you're in the den.  We're waiting to have some cabinetry installed in there, hence no den pictures yet.  To the right of the foyer as shown is the dining room.  The second photo is of the dining room taken from the opposite side, and the third photo is of the dining room from the foyer side.  The artwork remains on the floor for now until we can make some decisions on placement. (We're thinking about putting some glasswork in the wall between the dining room and foyer.) Turning around in the foyer to face the back of the house, one sees the living room on the right and the hall passage to the breakfast area, with kitchen on the left of the passageway.  Adjacent to the breakfast nook is the sunroom, with its bayed view of the golf course and pond.

Then into the kitchen...

The left-most is taken from the entry to the kitchen off the dining room hallway.  One looks toward the sun room and beyond, with the breakfast nook to the right. The next three shots are different angles of the kitchen with the island in the center.  The rightmost photo shows the arched entry into the living room as seen from the snack bar area of the kitchen.

Following is a picture that I enjoyed making.  While the house was being framed, with the second floor deck in place but no upper sidewalls erected yet, I climbed onto the second floor and took three photos in different directions, then with PhotoStitch software, pieced the three pictures together to give a panoramic view of the pond and golf course.  This is the view from our upper rear bedroom, though it is a bit more encumbered today.

I'm holding off on taking pictures of the rest of the house for now.  We need to get some decorating in place first.
